Teams
A Team is the basic organizational unit in the PLGrid infrastructure, essential for acquiring and managing computing resources. It constitutes a group of users who jointly pursue a specific research goal and share allocated resources:
- Computing power (CPU, GPU),
- Storage,
- QPU (Quantum Computing),
- Credits (e.g., for Large Language Models).
Having a Team is a mandatory requirement for submitting a Grant application.
Who can create a Team?
Due to the strict linkage between Teams and Grants, the right to create a Team (and assume the role of Main Manager) is reserved exclusively for users whose Affiliation entitles them to apply for resources. These are:
- Scientific Researchers (Academic unit employee, Scientific institution employee),
- PhD Students,
- HPC center employee.
Users with other affiliation types (e.g., Subordinates, External Collaborators) join Teams created by their scientific supervisors.
Important: To join a Team, such users must be invited by a Manager. They cannot apply to join on their own.
Team Structure and Rules
- Team Size: A Team can be a single-person team.
- Changing the Main Manager: The Main Manager cannot leave the Team without first transferring the Main Manager role to another designated person. The consent of the designated user is required for the effective transfer of this role.
- Data Access: The Main Manager may apply to the Service Provider for full access rights to all data accumulated in the Team directory and PLGrid Infrastructure Resource instances belonging to the given Team.
Roles and Permissions
Within a Team, users are assigned roles that define the scope of responsibility:
-
Main Manager:
- The founder of the Team.
- Has full authority to manage membership (inviting, assigning roles).
- Can assign the Manager role to another user.
- Applies for Grants and negotiates resources.
- Is responsible for Grant settlement.
-
Manager:
- A person holding this role is authorized to invite additional users and assign them the Manager role.
- Can edit applications and negotiate resources.
- Is jointly responsible for Grant settlement along with the Main Manager.
-
Team Member:
- The basic role for individuals performing computations.
- Has access to allocated resources.
- Does not have permissions to manage the Team or the Grant.
